Assigning custodians to listings in Fleetwire lets you designate team members or external accounts to manage specific vehicles. Custodians can control listings and orders, helping you streamline operations. Since this feature is in beta, here’s a quick guide to get started!

## 🎯 Why Assign Custodians?

Assigning custodians helps you:

* **Delegate Tasks**: Custodians can manage listings and orders, like updating availability or handling bookings.
* **Organize Your Team**: Track who’s responsible for each vehicle, whether they’re on your team or from another account.

|| **Note**: Custodians must be added as team members or linked accounts in Fleetwire before assignment.

## 🛠 How to Assign Custodians

Follow these steps to assign custodians to your listings in Fleetwire.

### Step 1: Add Custodians

Ensure custodians are set up as team members or linked accounts.

1. Go to [Settings > Team](https://tenant.fleetwire.io/settings/team) in your dashboard.
2. Click **+ Add Team Member** to invite a company team member, or link an external account via **Add External Account**.
3. For team members, assign a role with permissions to manage listings and orders (e.g., `company_admin`).
4. Click **Invite** or **Link** to add them.

| **Pro Tip**: External accounts are great for partnering with other companies to manage shared listings.

### Step 2: Assign a Custodian to a Listing

Assign a custodian to manage a specific listing.

1. Navigate to [Listings](https://tenant.fleetwire.io/listings/).
2. Select a listing and go to its **Details** tab.
3. In the **Custodian** field, choose a team member or linked account from the dropdown.
4. Click **Save** to assign the custodian.

| **Quick Tip**: Custodians can update listings and handle orders directly, saving you time.

### Step 3: Test the Assignment

Verify that custodians can manage their assigned listings and orders.

1. Create a test order for the listing via your online store (e.g., `testcompany.fleetwire.io`) or in [Orders](https://tenant.fleetwire.io/orders/).
2. Confirm the custodian can access and manage the listing and order in their dashboard.
