🛠 How to Charge a Credit Card

Follow these steps to charge a credit card directly from an order in Fleetwire.

Step 1: Open the Order

In your Fleetwire dashboard, go to Orders.
Select the order you want to charge (e.g., a booking created on May 14, 2025, at 06:18 PM EDT).
Click the Payment button to start the payment process.

Pro Tip: If the customer is paying for a new booking, create a manual order first, as described in Reserving and Saving Orders.

Step 2: Charge the Credit Card

In the payment interface, choose Credit Card as the payment method.
Fill in the Amount you want to charge (e.g., $150.00 for a rental fee).
Enter the credit card information:
- Manually input the card number, expiration date, and CVV, or
- Select a stored credit card if the customer has paid before.
Click Charge to process the payment.

Warning: Double-check the amount and credit card details before clicking Charge. Once processed, the charge is final, and you’ll need to issue a refund through Stripe if there’s an error.

Step 3: Confirm the Payment

After clicking Charge, Fleetwire will process the payment via Stripe.
You’ll see a confirmation in the order’s payment history, showing the charged amount and date.
The customer will receive a payment confirmation email if you’ve set up templates (see Create Your Own Email Templates in Fleetwire).

Quick Tip: If the payment fails (e.g., due to an invalid card), you’ll see an error message. Verify the card details with the customer and try again.
