🎯 Why Create an API Token?

An API token in Fleetwire lets you:

Automate Processes: Sync bookings, listings, or customer data with external systems.
Integrate Tools: Connect Fleetwire to platforms like Zapier, bookkeeping software, CRMs, or custom apps.
Boost Efficiency: Reduce manual work by automating updates and notifications.
Stay Secure: Give each tool only the access it needs, and API tokens never exceed the permissions of your user account.

Note: Every paid plan (Basic, Standard and Premium) can create Read only tokens. Changing data through the API (Full access or Custom tokens) needs the Premium plan. To upgrade, go to Billing Settings or contact hi@fleetwire.io.

🛠 How to Create an API Token

Follow these simple steps to generate your API token in Fleetwire.

Step 1: Open API Tokens

Go to Settings > Integrations > API tokens.

Step 2: Create the Token

Click New token.
Enter a Name so you can tell your tokens apart (e.g. Website or Bookkeeping).
Under Access, pick one:
- Full access — anything you can do in the dashboard
- Read only — can view, can't change anything
- Custom — read, plus the changes you pick: choose from Bookings, Toll charges, Customers, Pricing and Webhooks.
Click Create token.
In Copy your new token, click Copy. The token is shown only once, so store it somewhere safe.

On Basic or Standard, only Read only is available.

Connecting Zapier? Use Full access so Zapier's actions and instant triggers work (Premium).

Note: API tokens inherit the same user permissions as the account they’re created under. For example, if your account can’t access certain listings, the token won’t be able to either.

Warning: Treat your API token like a password—don’t share it publicly! If it’s compromised, delete it in API Tokens (trash icon) and create a new one.

Step 3: Use Your API Token

Paste the token into the external tool or app you’re integrating with Fleetwire (e.g., a custom script, Zapier, or a bookkeeping tool). If you're writing your own code, send it as an Authorization: Bearer <token> header.
Test the integration to ensure it works as expected, for example by syncing your latest bookings to a third-party calendar.
The API Tokens list shows each token's Access and Last Used date, so you can spot tokens you no longer need.

Quick Tip: Keep a record of where you use each token. If you need to delete one later, you’ll know which integrations to update.
